Regents name Ken Hush 18th president of Emporia State University

The Kansas Board of Regents named Hush as Interim President of Emporia State on November 17, 2021, following the departure of former president Allison Garrett. He will assume the role of permanent president of the university immediately.


ESU Theatre summer farce ‘The Underpants’ rescheduled for August

Emporia State University Theatre has rescheduled this week’s planned opening of Steve Martin’s face “The Underpants” because of four positive COVID results among the cast and crew. The show is now set for Aug. 24 through 27.


Hall of Fame Honors Teachers With Week of Activities

Exceptional educators will be honored this week as the National Teachers Hall of Fame inducts 10 new members. Two classes of five inductees each will be honored, the first in-person events after the COVID pandemic canceled the schedule in 2020.


Events Celebrate May Massee Collection

Students to Learn What It Takes to be a Teacher

Kansas high school students will get to experience what it means to be a teacher at the Kansas Future Teacher Academy June 5 through 9. About 60 students from across the state will be meeting at the academy, held at Emporia State University.


Bisogno and Wengers Inducted Into the Kansas Business Hall of Fame

Joseph J. Bisogno and the late brothers Joseph and Louis Wenger have been announced as the 2022 Kansas Business Hall of Fame (KBHF) Contemporary and Historical inductees, respectively. These three were officially inducted at the Business Appreciation Dinner on May 11 at the Topeka Country Club hosted by the Kansas Chamber of Commerce.


Patton, Reynolds Win 2022 Emporia Entrepreneur Challenge

Jillian Patton and Lillian Reynolds were announced the winners of the Emporia Entrepreneur Challenge on April 28. The Emporia Entrepreneur Challenge is a venture idea competition that is open to all students from Emporia State University with $3,000 in cash prizes: $1,500 for first, $1,000 for second, and $500 for third.


Local officers enjoy lunch from ESU

Lunch was on Emporia State University for local law enforcement officers and firefighters earlier this month. On May 10, ESU Interim President Ken Hush and the university’s leadership team sent a deli lunch to more than 70 at the Emporia Police Department, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Emporia State Police and Emporia Fire Department.
