ESU Campus & Foundation to Close During Holiday Break

The Emporia State University campus, including Sauder Alumni Center, will close for one full week at the end of this month. Campus will close at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, and reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.




ESU to Celebrate New Esports Arena Opening

A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 29, will celebrate the opening of the new ESU esports arena. The event will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and include games, refreshments and a player meet-and-greet.


Sauder Family, Scholarship Recipients Celebrated at Annual Luncheon

Because of the generosity of Earl W. Sauder, a devoted fan and supporter of Emporia State University, 51 Hornet student-athletes from each of ESU’s intercollegiate sports were honored at a luncheon on Nov. 16 as Earl W. Sauder Athletic Scholars for 2023-24.


ESU Alum Focuses on Community Engagement

An Emporia State student-athlete alum has returned to her alma mater to focus on community relations. Erica Self earned three degrees from ESU over six years before taking the role as director for student + community engagement.


Kansas Tourism Grant to Benefit National Memorial to Fallen Educators

Kansas Tourism has announced that The National Teachers Hall of Fame will receive one of their “big giant checks” as an Attraction Development Grant Award recipient for 2023. Carrie Doud, fiscal and grant manager of Kansas Tourism, will be in Emporia between 11 and 11:30 a.m. Nov. 16, to present the check for $16,000 to the staff and board of trustees. The grant is designed to enhance an existing state attraction, and the funding will be directed toward advertising and additions to the National Memorial to Fallen Educators.


International Students to Share Cultures at Show

International students at Emporia State University have planned a series of activities to celebrate International Education Week. The week highlights the benefits of international education and showcases the diverse cultures, music and cuisine of international students. The events culminate on Friday, Nov. 17, with the International Cultural Show.



50th Math Day a Success at Emporia State University

More than 400 high school students from across Kansas converged on the Emporia State University campus to compete in the Donald L. Bruyr Mathematics Day on Wednesday (Oct. 18). The 2023 competition was the 50th anniversary.
