National Teachers Hall of Fame Announces 2023 Inductees

Five career teachers from across the country have just learned that they have been selected as Class of 2023 inductees into The National Teachers Hall of Fame in June. With a combined total of 149 years of full-time teaching, the newest inductees include:


Women's History Month Reception and Awards Ceremony

Come celebrate the women of Emporia State University on Friday, March 31 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Greek Room of the Memorial Union. The Ethnic and Gender Studies Program is sponsoring the reception.



Presentation Explores Lives of Free-Born Children after Civil War

ESU Special Collections and Archives will host “Children of the Promised Land,” a presentation and discussion by Angela Bates, on Tuesday, March 28 at 7 p.m. in the Learning Commons of William Allen White Library. Members of the community are invited to attend the free program, which is made possible by Humanities Kansas. Additional funding for this program was provided by the ITC Great Plains.


ESU Theatre Presents Pulitzer Prize-winning play, ‘How I Learned to Drive’

Emporia State University Theatre presents “How I Learned to Drive,” by Paula Vogel, today through Sunday in the Ronald Q. Frederickson Black Box Theatre, Roosevelt Hall. Performances are today, Friday and Saturday (March 23-25) at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday (March 26) at 2 p.m.


Shark Expert Presents Talk Friday

Dr. David Shiffman, faculty member at Arizona State University, is speaking Friday, March 10. In his lecture, “Why Sharks Matter: The Science and Policy Behind Saving Threatened Sharks,” Shiffman explains why sharks are some of the most fascinating, most threatened and most important animals on Earth.


Pflaum Lecture coming March 8

“Coaching Debate in Prison: Education and Redemption” is the theme of the 2023 Pflaum Lecture. The event on Wednesday, March 8, features David Register, 2004 Emporia State alum, faculty fellow and director of debate for the Bard Prison Initiative.


ESU Art Education Students Host Show

March 2, 2023 College of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Juniors and seniors in Emporia State University’s Art Education department will host a group art exhibition titled “The Art of Education.” The show will be on display at the Gilson Gallery, second floor of King Hall, from March 6 through 24. The gallery is open between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.


Bonner & Bonner Diversity Lecture Coming March 2

“The Power of Story and the Danger of Absence” is the theme of the 2023 Bonner and Bonner Diversity Lecture: Civic Leadership for the Common Good. The event on Thursday, March 2 features Dr. Ferial Pearson, an assistant professor of teacher education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
