Emporia State Receives More Than $2 Million In Grants for Rehabilitation Counseling

Two grants totaling more than $2 million received by Emporia State University look to help professionals whose goals are to increase the employment opportunities for people with deaf and hard of hearing issues, and autism spectrum disorders. Emporia State has one of just three programs in the United States that offers a concentration in working with deaf and hard of hearing people.


William Allen White Award Celebration Focuses on Books, Children

Students and educators from across Kansas will celebrate children’s literature during the 67th annual William Allen White Children’s Book Awards on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at Emporia State University. The events are open to the public.


Center to Help Children, Families Dedicated

About 100 people attended an event recently for an organization that has the singular purpose of helping children learn to read and working with the communities the children live in to encourage this basic life skill.


NCAA Chief Medical Officer to Speak at Emporia State

The Chief Medical Officer of the NCAA Dr. Brian Hainline will be in Emporia on Monday to spend the day with Emporia State students and staff. As the Chief Medical Officer for the NCAA, Dr. Hainline oversees the NCAA Sport Science Institute, a national center of excellence whose mission is to promote and develop safety, excellence, and wellness in college student-athletes, and to foster lifelong physical and mental development.


ESU Presented Top Award for Education Leadership

The Teachers College at Emporia State University received national recognition Sept. 26 from the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation for surpassing the standards in becoming re-accredited during their most recent accreditation cycle.


Emporia State Posts Enrollment Growth, Retention Record

Emporia State University posted another year of enrollment growth thanks to another record retention rate and an increase in first-time freshman undergraduate and graduate students compared to fall 2018.

Emporia State was honored to be the site of a visit by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, who convened a broadband roundtable on Sept. 19 in the School of Business. The event was coordinated by the office of U.S. Congressman Roger Marshall. Community leaders, broadband providers and others attended.

I am so very sorry to share the sad news that Mark Runge, our Director of Facilities, died overnight. Mark’s career at Emporia State spanned 32 years, and all who met him knew immediately how much he loved our university, our campus and the Emporia community.
