Partnership with HOHM Brings Two Nap Pods to campus

Emporia State University is bringing napping to new places with the help of HOHM. ESU is only the second university in the United States to implement these unique sleep pods, which unlike other pods, are more like a small bedroom than an actual pod. Following the ribbon-cutting at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, ESU students and faculty will be able to reserve their spot to take a nap in the comfort of HOHM.

Congratulations to 2019 graduate Sarah Spoon (BA Modern Language & English, History & Journalism minors, Spanish concentration). A student at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Sarah received first prize and a $5,000 Peter O.E. Bekker Scholarship.Wrote the New York Press Club in its program, “We look forward to watching Sarah continue to hold accountable those who attack freedom of the press and know she will go on to do amazing things for our profession.”

Prof. Kevin Rabas, chair of English, Modern Languages and Journalism, co-directed a short documentary, “Strawberry Hill Fight Club,”which screened at the IFC Kansas City film festival this summer. It will be screened Saturday in Emporia at the No Coast Film Festival and at the Kansas International Film Festival this fall.

Kansans Can Win Books in Photo Contest

Kansans taking pictures of themselves can take part in a photo contest during Kansas Literacy Week, September 1-7.


New Exhibit Opening at ESU Archives

Emporia State University Special Collections and Archives will open the exhibit “Delving Deeper: Discovering ESU’s Hidden Gems” with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in the exhibit hall on the first floor of ESU’s William Allen White Library.


Emporia State Foundation Sets a New Record in Philanthropic Support

Emporia State University Foundation raised more than $16 million in private gifts and pledges during the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2019. The university nearly doubled its fundraising from the prior year, an increase of over $7 million, making fiscal year 2019 the best year in its history.
