ESU String Camp registration is open

Students in first grade through high school who want to have a unique orchestra experience this summer may register for the Emporia State University String Camp 2021. This year, the campus returns to its traditional format of in-person instruction and activities.




Hall of Fame Teacher Returns to Emporia for Book Launch

Christopher Albrecht, a 2019 inductee into The National Teachers Hall of Fame, will return to Emporia on July 12 and 13 for a national launch of his second book “The Rediscovery of Hope and Purpose.”


Jones Trust Provides Grant to Extend and Expand Mobilizing Literacy Programs

A recent commitment from the W.S. & E.C. Jones Trust for $2.5 million to the Mobilizing Literacy grant program will continue and expand upon literacy initiatives benefitting children within the region. Over the next five years, this grant, coordinated by Emporia State’s Kansas Masonic Literacy Center, will expand efforts to improve grade-level reading attainment for the 11 participating school districts within the tri-county region of Coffey, Lyon and Osage counties.

Hornet Hills Name of New ESU Disc Golf Course

After soliciting naming ideas from Emporia State students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends, the new disc golf course on campus will be called Hornet Hills. The three people who suggested the name will receive gift cards to Dynamic Discs from company founder and ESU alumnus, Jeremy Rusco.


Douglas J. Cohen’s ‘No Way to Treat a Lady’ Is Summer Musical Production

Emporia State University Theatre presents Douglas J. Cohen's “No Way to Treat a Lady” as the 2021 Summer Theatre Musical at 7:30 p.m. on June 23, 24, 25 and 26. This fast-paced, murder-musical comedy is set in seedy 1970s New York. Follow lovable schlub-of-a-detective Morris Brummel in his pursuit of a serial strangler across the city, while he negotiates a romance with a woman way out of his league. Who will be the first to grab the daily headlines: the killer or the detective?


Emporia State Drops Mask Mandate, Other COVID Protocols

Requirements to wear masks, social distance and disinfect classrooms and offices ended today at Emporia State University. In a communication to all faculty, staff and students, ESU President Allison D. Garrett shared that campus is officially back to normal.


ESU Student Places in Kansas Entrepreneurship Challenge

An Emporia State business administration student took third place in the Kansas Entrepreneurship Challenge recently. Kendra Kratzberg, a senior from New Strawn, earned $1,000 for her idea “ShowUP.”
