Second ESU presidential candidate to visit campus

The second of two candidates selected as a presidential finalist for Emporia State University will meet with campus and community groups on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 8-9, 2015.

Dr. Petra M. Roter currently serves as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh, a position she has held since 2005.

Today Roter serves as a university-wide leader in the areas of campus resource and budget management, public relations, enrollment management, policy and program development, accreditation, strategic and operational planning, student engagement and success and crisis management. From August to November 2014 she served as Interim Chancellor at University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh, providing institution and system leadership within Wisconsin’s tradition of shared governance. She has overseen Higher Learning Commission re-accreditation, served on the Diversity Council and Gender Equity Council and was chair of the Enrollment Management Team.

Before her current appointment, Roter served as Dean of Student Development and Academic Services at University of Wisconsin - La Crosse (2000-2005) and Director of Student Life Programs at Indiana State University (1995-2000), among other positions.

A native of the Chicago area, she received her Doctor of Philosophy, Counseling and Psychological Services (Ph.D.) from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, and a Master of Science in Psychology-Community Mental Health and Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. Roter is currently attending the Executive Leadership Academy at American Academic Leadership Institute, and is member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the American College Personnel Association, the National Association of College Auxiliary Services, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault. She is also active in the community, including Downtown Oshkosh Rotary, Oshkosh United Way, Oshkosh Women’s Fund and the Oshkosh School District Visioning Project.

The community is invited and encouraged to meet the candidate at an open forum on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 4:15 p.m. at Albert Taylor Hall, in Plumb Hall (1 Kellogg Circle) on the Emporia State campus. The forum will be followed by a reception from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. in the Rotunda of Plumb Hall.

Following campus visits, the Kansas Board of Regents will conduct interviews and make a final selection. The new President will assume office on or about Jan. 1, 2016.
