Campus space optimization is the second Kansas Board of Regents goal that Emporia State University is aligning itself to meet. Today, Cory Falldine is being promoted to chief information officer and vice president for infrastructure at ESU. He reports directly to Interim President Ken Hush. Bill McKernan, currently facilities director, is being promoted to executive director of University Facilities.
A familiar face will fill a new position at Emporia State University that is tasked with enrollment growth. Dr. Shelly Gehrke is being promoted to vice president for enrollment management and student success effective today and will report directly to Interim President Ken Hush.

The Kansas Board of Regents just announced that Provost George Arasimowicz will serve as our acting president, beginning October 16. The board will take action on naming an interim president at a future Regents meeting.
Another year of a record-high number of graduate students enrolled at Emporia State University helped offset an expected drop in new, first-time students enrolled for fall 2021. Data also showed continued record highs in student retention as well as the highest graduation rates recorded.
Today, Emporia State University President Allison D. Garrett was named the ninth chancellor and chief executive officer for the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education. In her new role, Garrett will lead the Oklahoma state system comprised of 25 state colleges and universities, 11 constituent agencies, one university center and independent colleges and universities coordinated with the state system. She will report to a constitutional board whose nine members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate.
In rankings released Sept. 13, 2021, by U.S. News & World Report, Emporia State University was the highest ranked Kansas public regional institution as well as the only one that ranked in social mobility for its graduates.
Nyk Robertson, who has served as the associate director of TRIO Student Support Services at Emporia State since 2019, has accepted the position of ESU interim senior director of diversity, beginning August 8.
