Theatre Ticket Pricing Encourages Advance Sales

Emporia State University Theatre is introducing a new ticketing policy this fall to encourage advance sales to its theatre performances. Under the new policy, ESU Theatre will continue to offer in-person sales and phone sales through the University Ticket Office in the Memorial Union. However, persons who buy their tickets at the performance will pay a surcharge. So patrons who buy their tickets in advance will receive a substantial savings.

Last year, a new computer sales system was introduced and at the same time, ticket prices were increased — for the first time in 15 years. That new system allowed ticket-buyers to choose their seats and purchase from their home or office. This follows a national trend among performing arts organizations that encourage advance sales to reduce long lines at the box office and ensure that performances begin on time.

Under the new policy, ESU Theatre tickets will be available from the University Ticket Office in the Memorial Union up until 5 p.m. on show dates. Tickets purchased in advance for performances will cost $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students. But, if tickets are purchased at the performance, the prices will increase to $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $7 for students.

The Homecoming musical is a fundraiser for scholarships with increased ticket prices. Premium seats (center section) to the Homecoming musical are $15, second tier seats (side sections) are $12 and student tickets (side sections) are $8 if purchased in advance. Tickets purchased at the door for the Homecoming musical will increase to $20 for premium seats, $15 for second tier seats and $12 for student tickets in the second tier.

Advance sale tickets for all ESU Theatre productions and athletic events can be purchased online at tickets.emporia.edu. Tickets are also available in person from the University Ticket Office at the Memorial Union or by calling 620-341-6378.
