In October, Emporia State’s Peterson Planetarium invites you to immerse yourself in the glow of the sun with showings of “The Sun: Our Living Star.”
The fulldome planetarium show explores the majesty of the sun, which has shone on our world for 4.5 billion years. The sun served as a means of tracking time for past civilizations and remains our planet’s powerhouse, providing the energy that drives our winds, weather and all life.
Although it is a typical dwarf star, the sun consumes 600 million tons of hydrogen each second and is 500 times as massive as all the planets combined.
The program begins with a live tour of the night sky led by Mark Brown, director of the Peterson Planetarium. After the fulldome show, Brown will follow up with additional information about the program and/or night sky and offer the opportunity to engage others in asking questions.
Perfect for science enthusiasts of all ages, the presentation is free and open to the public. Each attendee must register individually at emporia.edu/planetarium to reserve a seat. Space is limited, so take advantage of this shining opportunity before it fades into the sunset!
