An internationally recognized speaker on race and sexuality will present an interactive lecture at Emporia State University on Monday night.
Dr. Jamie Washington, president and founder of the Washington Consulting Group, will lead “Navigating Race and Sexualities: Exploring Identity and Intersectionality” from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, in the ESU Memorial Union’s Preston Family Room. The free event is open to the campus and community.
“The conversation of race and sexualities is in the front of many of our minds today. No longer are we addressing these identity issues in silos. We live as fully integrated people. There are challenges and opportunities in which we must engage, however, to be our authentic selves,” said Deanna Williams, director of diversity student programs at Emporia State. “Dr. Washington’s talk will help us navigate this important and timely topic.”
The Washington Consulting Group is a multicultural organizational development firm based in Baltimore, Maryland. Washington has served as an educator, administrator and consultant in higher education for more than 30 years. He is the president and a founder of the Social Justice Training Institute and also serves as visiting assistant professor of religion and social ethics at Winston Salem State University. He is a writer, speaker, coach, consultant, teacher and trainer. He has spoken all over the United States, as well as in Canada and South Africa and serves as the co-pastor of Unity Fellowship.
