Homecoming Festivities Unite ESU Alumni, Emporia Community

Cheerleaders and flags

As Emporia State alumni return to campus for in-person celebrations, the university welcomes the Emporia community to also enjoy the special events. Homecoming 2021 begins Thursday, Oct. 21 and concludes with a matinee of the musical on Sunday, Oct. 24. In between these dates will be a celebration with a live concert, food trucks and a special announcement about Together, Forward, The Campaign for Emporia State.

Key events during the 2021 Homecoming celebration include:

“Urinetown: The Musical,” an award-winning satire targets capitalism, social irresponsibility, tribalism and corporate greed. Audience note: “Urinetown” contains depictions of violence, and the satirical humor may not be understood by younger audiences — we recommend this production for audiences ages 16 and up. Content-sensitive patrons should contact the theatre office with any questions. More information and tickets: https://bit.ly/2Z29kvl

Welcome Home, Alumni! Is THE social event of the season! Set on the lawn in front of Plumb Hall underneath the lights, Friday, Oct. 22 is a night of reconnecting, food trucks, recognition of the Classes of 1970 & 1971 and exciting announcements. Includes live music from Lucas Parker Band featuring Jessica Paige, games and fun for all ages of the family. Registration and ticket purchase ($10 adults/$5 children/5 and under free) is required for the provided drinks. All food truck purchases are on your own. Note: Online registration deadline for Welcome Home is Wednesday, Oct. 20. Walk-ups are welcome the day of the event; those not wanting the provided drinks are welcome to drop by and enjoy the rest of the events for free.

Athletic Events. The ESU basketball teams will be showcased Thursday night during Late Night at White. The ESU baseball and softball teams host their alumni games on Saturday. And the football team plays Missouri Southern in the annual Homecoming football game on Saturday.

Student Events include tricycle races and the annual bonfire, the Phi Delta Theta pole sit and alumni socials for TKE and Chi Omega, plus Sigma Sigma Sigma’s annual chili feed on Friday.

Hornet Walk Recharged moves the traditional Homecoming parade to the pedestrian mall on campus. On Saturday morning, spectators from the Emporia State University campus and the greater Emporia community are invited to line the pedestrian mall to see the ESU Marching Hornets, Stingers and ESU Cheerleaders lead the ESU football team, Homecoming court, and Recognized Student Organizations through campus.
