Now & Forever campaign tops 88 percent mark

Children whose parents work at the ESU Foundation and Alumni Relations hold up numbers marking the newest total of contributions to Now & Forever: The Campaign for Emporia State University.

Remarkable generosity from a loyal and steadily expanding base of supporters has propelled the Now & Forever campaign to new heights in its fourth year of successful fundraising for Emporia State University.

On Thursday, Emporia State Foundation reported surpassing the $40 million dollar mark on the way to the campaign’s $45 million working goal. These fundraising totals include both current gifts and future commitments in the form of planned giving through a will, trust or other estate document. More than 11,000 donors have participated in the campaign to-date.

"It has been particularly encouraging that more than 2,000 of the households and organizations that contributed in the first year of the campaign have continued giving in each of the following years," said Jennifer Denton, Foundation vice president of stewardship and administration. “We appreciate these steadfast friends of Hornet Nation.”

Now & Forever: The Campaign for Emporia State University now stands at $40,041,495 or 88.3 percent of its $45,351,863 goal.

"I am gratified to see the support generated by this campaign and am proud to be part of the excitement and enthusiasm for our university," said Dr. Jackie Vietti, who joined Emporia State as interim president on June 1.

"The response from donors acknowledges not only the exceptional quality of education our university provides and need to supplement the dwindling funds available for education,” Vietti said, “it shows a willingness to ensure a level of support so critical to our future."

Foundation officials have been working closely with alumni and friends to simplify gift-giving in ways that are most convenient for the individual or organization. Contributions may be given through traditional means or as pledges, by credit card, as legacy gifts from an estate or, in some instances, as automatic recurring payments or payroll deductions.

“The commitment our alumni and friends are making to Emporia State University through gifts to the Now & Forever campaign is inspiring,” said Shane Shivley, Foundation vice president for development. “It is a great time to be on our campus.”

The campaign supports student scholarships, academic departments and initiatives that advance Emporia State’s mission of preparing students for lifelong learning, rewarding careers and adaptive leadership.
