Second ESU Provost Candidate to Visit Campus Tuesday

The second of four finalist candidates for the position of provost at Emporia State University will visit campus Tuesday, March 16, 2021.

Dr. Aimee D. Shouse currently is dean of the College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota. In this position since 2017, Shouse has coordinated SMSU’s Transfer Pathways, an initiative of the Minnesota State System for seamless transfer between community and technical colleges and the university. She also facilitated creation of three fully online programs from the College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences (Community Psychology and Health Promotion, History, and Sociology).

Before her current appointment, Shouse served at Western Illinois University as director of Liberal Arts and Sciences (2015-2017), interim chair (2008) then chair of the Department of Women’s Studies (2009-2016) and assistant professor (1993-2003) and associate professor (2003-2009) of political science and professor of women’s studies (2009-2017).

Shouse earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Central Arkansas and a Ph.D. in political science from Vanderbilt University.

During a public webinar at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Shouse will present on how she would move ESU forward followed by questions and answers. The webinar is open to the entire ESU campus as well as interested community members. The link to join the webinar is at emporia.edu/live. Questions can be typed in during the webinar.

Shouse also will meet with ESU President Allison Garrett, the vice presidents, Faculty Senate executive board and the Provost Council before touring the Emporia community.
