High School Student Essay Contest Launched by Kansas Business Hall of Fame

web-KBHF-logoThe Kansas Business Hall of Fame invites Lyon County high school students to submit essays in its first student essay contest, themed “Kansas Entrepreneurs.”

The contest is open to students in Grades 9 through 12 in Lyon County. Home school entries are accepted. Original essays should be based on research of one Kansas Business Hall of Fame honoree inducted either in the Historical or Contemporary category. Inductees can be found at https://www.emporia.edu/business/community/kbhf/. Students can read about the inductees and choose one that inspires them. They are encouraged to use their own personal thoughts and views that best pertain to the theme and themselves. Entries are judged by a panel of business professionals and business faculty.

All essays must be typed with a limit of 500 to 1,000 words. All entries must include a cover sheet consisting of the student’s name, teacher’s name, school and grade or the entry will not be judged. Entries are due Friday, Feb. 10, 2017.

Seven total cash prizes will be awarded to the top three essays overall ($100 each) and for the top essay (from the remaining essays) in each grade, 9 through 12 ($50 each). Winning authors will be recognized at an awards ceremony, with details to be announced at a later date. Prize money is graciously donated by the Kansas Chamber of Commerce.
