General Assembly kicks off fall semester

"The Adaptive University in Motion" is the theme as Interim President Dr. Jackie Vietti welcomes students, faculty and staff to the opening of the fall 2015 semester at Emporia State University. The General Assembly, at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, in the Memorial Union's Webb Hall, caps a busy two days of students moving to campus.

Upperclassmen move into the Morse Complex on Thursday with new first-year students and their families arriving at 7:30 a.m. Friday to move into the Towers Complex. With plenty of help from faculty, staff and student volunteers, Move-In Day is a well-oiled machine with a festive flavor.

The celebratory atmosphere will continue during the General Assembly, which includes welcomes from local dignitaries and student leaders. Immediately following the General Assembly, at around 3 p.m., is an ice cream social on Main Street of the Memorial Union's first level, beginning around 3 p.m. The weekend is filled with orientation activities for students before classes begin Monday.
