Family show closes Summer Theatre season

Emporia State University Summer Theatre closes its 61st season with the award-winning musical “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” based on the popular children’s book by Judith Viorst.

This delightful musical is about Alexander (Carter Brown, Dallas, Texas), who is having a rather trying day. From lima beans for supper to finding gum in his hair, it just seems like Alexander’s day couldn’t get any worse. It’s enough to make any one want to move to Australia! Fun for the whole family, Alexander’s struggles are sure to both entertain and educate young audiences by showing us that bad days happen to everyone – even in Australia.

“Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” is under the direction of Lindy Bartruff, with musical direction provided by Anna Ryan. Chris Lohkamp is designing the set and guest artist Sara Ice (University of Nebraska, Kearney) is designing the costumes. Amanda Dura supervises the costume shop. Landon Noll (Winchester) is the production stage manager. Logan Wohlford (Valley Center) is the assistant stage manager.

Other cast members include Lauren Bergman (St. Joseph, Missouri), Michael Juarez (Omaha, Nebraska), Michael Judah (Omaha, Nebraska), Bailey Carter (Topeka), Robert Crone (Emporia), Elliott Brest (Tonganoxie) and Tyler Lang (Wichita).

“Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” runs July 22 to 24 at 7:30 pm, with a special 2 p.m. matinee on July 25. All performances will be in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre. For tickets, call the box office at 620-341-6378.
