ESU Experts Will Again Offer Analysis after Presidential Debate

Three Emporia State faculty members will offer expert analysis after the final U.S. presidential debate next week.

A watch party for the debate will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the PKP Room of the ESU Memorial Union. The live debate is scheduled to end at 9:30, after which Michael Smith, Christopher Loghry and Heidi Hamilton will offer analysis, which will be live streamed on www.livestream.com/emporiastate.

Loghry and Smith first teamed on Oct. 9 to offer analysis of the second presidential debate, which was a town hall-style meeting. Loghry, ESU director of debate, offered information about rhetoric theory and how the two candidates — Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump — used those techniques. Smith, a political science professor, discussed whether either candidate had “closed the deal” and also shared insight from presidential debates in past races. A video of the Oct. 9 analysis also can be found at www.livestream.com/emporiastate.

For the final presidential debate, Heidi Hamilton, associate professor of communication, will join the panel and offer her expertise on gender issues, particularly gender and political communication.

All are invited to the debate, which is free and will include refreshments.
