* Friday Nights Kick Off Tailgate: FREE BBQ to the first 250 to attend, FREE Game Day t-shirts to wear for the first home opening ESU Football game on September 1, and lots of other giveaways!

*Emporia First Friday Art Walk: Grab an Art Walk Passport at participating locations and make your way around the Emporia First Friday Art Walk featuring art at downtown businesses and in ESU’s Schallenkamp and King Hall. The Art Walk Passport includes a list of each participating business/ESU locations (with address), the artists being featured at each venue, and any special discounts being offered by businesses during the Art Walk. At the end of the Art Walk participants may leave their completed Passport at any venue, organizers collect the Passports, and the prize drawing takes place at 9:30 p.m. All ESU students who turn in a Passport will be entered into a weekly drawing!
*Fiesta in the Square: Ready to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with HALO and Diversity Student Programs? Stop by for walking tacos, horchata, music, and make a craft celebrating this special month.

*Union Takeover: From Grocery BINGO, to karaoke, FREE ice cream sundaes, to music, crafts and more you don’t want to miss out on all of the fun activities!

*Water Games: Dunk tank, 6 on 6 water fights, GIANT water slide, water kickball, and more!

*Comedian: Eric O'Shea: Get ready to witness not only a comedy show, but an EVENT! With over 10 million hits on YouTube, and being nominated 6-TIME Campus Activities Magazine’s “National Comedy Performer of the Year,” Eric O’Shea is one of the best! As a veteran performer of over 1800 colleges and universities and countless corporate events, let Eric’s wit and priceless observations take you through your embarrassing childhood and hidden everyday moments that drive you insane!

*Beach Party: Head over to the sand volleyball courts after the 3 p.m. ESU Soccer game at the ESU Pitch for food, fun, yard games and prizes! FREE hot dogs, chips, and drinks!

*Hypnotist David Hall: Boston’s own David Hall hosts an unpredictable show creating a truly unique experience for the hypnotized participants as well as the audience. This highly regarded performer who travels to 100s of colleges throughout the year is ready to blow your mind!

Orientation is geared towards the new incoming students to help you get more familiar with campus, meet new people, and learn about resources to help you be successful at ESU!

Welcome Week encompasses all the exciting events and opportunities to get involved on campus the first week of classes.

All new students are highly-encouraged to participate in Hornet Orientation and Welcome Week events where you will meet new friends, get to know campus, and learn about the resources available to help you succeed.

Playfair is a team-building experience that you will never forget. Meet new friends, hang out with campus student leaders and make memories that will last a lifetime!

*Mini Majors: Meet faculty in your chosen major’s department, learn more about classes and meet some of your classmates. For undeclared majors, you’ll have one-on-one time with professional staff from the Student Advising Center.

*Class tours: Current student leaders from the Fraternity & Sorority Life community will take you around campus so you can find your classes before the first day of school.

* Speak About It: A performance about consent, boundaries, and healthy

* Open office hours: Have questions about your financial aid? Need help with your schedule? Want to pay for your books? You have time to knock some things off your list now. Visit Financial Aid, the Student Advising Center, Career Services, and more of the open offices during this time.

*TradPlus, Transfer and Veteran Student Orientation: The Center for Student Involvement and the Student Veterans Association welcomes incoming TradPlus, Transfer, and Veteran students to an orientation unique to the demands of being a new TradPlus student. If you are interested in getting involved at ESU or learning about resources for your specific needs, please join us on Friday, August 19, at 5pm in the MU Skyline Room.  Lite hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served.

*Hornet Games: Get ready to compete! The ESU Residence Assistants will be leading teams through challenges on the turf for this night of fun!

*Diversity Involvement Fair: Join the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Diversity Student Programs as they share all of the ways you can get involved in Recognized Student Organizations at ESU. Learn more about Diversity Student Programs, Black Student Union, Hispanic American Leadership Organization, PRIDE and First Generation Student Organization and Diversity Ambassadors and more.

*Peer Mentor Meet + Greet: Want to meet someone who knows the ropes on what it means to be a college student at ESU? Meet current ESU students who will mentor new students and help them navigate the “firsts’ of college life. Join us for root beer floats, get matched with a mentor and make a plan to meet up with a mentor throughout the semester.

*Get Rec'd: Want to know what the Student Recreation Center is all about? Find out more about group fitness, weights, and intramurals. Rec Center staff will provide demos about upcoming classes. There will be plenty of yard games to play and if you have never tried Silent Disco, now is your chance! Free pizza too!

* Vamos a Pescar (Let’s Go Fishing): Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow, along with the Emporia Migrant Education program, What’s in Outdoors and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and Emporia State University are hosting Vamos a Pescar. The event, which translates to “let’s go fishing,” teaches people about fishing. Learn how to fish, fishing rules and regulations and learn and practice water safety.

*Community Conversation: Latinx Leadership: Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce & Visit Emporia and Emporia Spanish Speakers are offering this free community conversation to explore the many facets of representation and local leadership. Three outstanding Latinx leaders from around the state will share their experiences and journeys in their respective communities and beyond. The speakers will then be available for a Q&A opportunity to discuss the importance of diversity, inclusion, and equity.

*PDGA Pro World Disc Golf Championship: The best of the best in disc golf will be in Emporia, Kansas, for the PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships hosted by Dynamic Discs. Celebrate disc golf with the pros in Emporia. Purchase spectator tickets or visit the downtown Block Party!
