Art + Therapy

Healing through Art Therapy

Art Therapy uses art materials of all types to explore topics, understand and express emotions, set goals, resolve conflicts, and learn coping strategies.

Art therapy can be beneficial to anyone who wants to do therapy. No previous experience in artmaking is necessary. The focus is on the PROCESS of creating and NOT on the finished product!

Art therapy is a way of expressing ourselves through art materials for processing our emotions, resolving conflicts, and learning about ourselves along the way. Artmaking can be cathartic and help you relax, too!

Individual art therapy sessions offer an opportunity for students to process their concerns and develop coping strategies and skills with their art therapist.

Groups offer the opportunity to create with others and benefit from the collective understanding of sharing similar issues and concerns, guided by a therapist. See Canvas (EDU login required) for current Art Therapy group offerings.

Students without access to art media for Zoom sessions can be provided with materials.

Contact: The Counseling Center (620) 341-5222 to schedule or request materials.
