Nursing + Student Wellness Center Construction

Nursing and Student Wellness Center Construction

About the Nursing and Student Wellness Center

As our nation, region and state are facing a healthcare worker shortage, Emporia State University is answering the call.

By constructing a new 32,000-square-foot Nursing and Student Wellness Center, Emporia State University will significantly enhance the academic experience for students and fulfill several logistical and fiscal goals that prioritize infrastructure consolidation and energy consumption. Completion of the new on-campus facility is expected in the spring of 2025.

The Emporia State University nursing program currently operates at Newman Regional Health’s Cora Miller Hall. Constructing the new Nursing and Student Wellness Center will allow Emporia State to expand and enhance its nursing program, bring students and faculty to the center of campus and provide state-of-the-art labs and learning spaces. The center will also house the university’s student wellness, healthcare and counseling services.

Students in the Emporia State University nursing program will have access to:

  • Simulation rooms: Three medical-surgical (one set up as an emergency department), one LDRP (labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum) and one pediatric.
  • 11-bed skills lab.
  • Two adaptable classrooms.
  • Spacious student lounge.
  • Student success center where students can receive one-on-one attention and mentorship they need to succeed in this high-stakes profession.

The new center will be built in the heart of campus, where Central Morse Hall was previously located.

Construction of the Nursing and Student Wellness Center has been made possible by the state of Kansas, donors to ESU’s Together, Forward campaign, the Walter S. & Evan C. Jones Testamentary Trust, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee and the Sunderland Foundation. The Jones Trust and the Sunderland Foundation have each awarded ESU $5 million grants for the facility’s construction.
