Emporia State’s Student Support Services program received a new five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Student Support Services has been helping college students from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed in and finish college at ESU since 1984.
SSS is one of the Department of Education’s TRIO programs providing services such as tutoring, mentoring, and financial advising to low-income, first-generation college students from their matriculation to graduation. Under the direction of Kristi Bolen, the SSS program creates a climate of support specifically designed to facilitate student learning and development, enabling the student to access, persist and graduate from college.
ESU’s SSS grant proposal received perfect scores from reviewers – an impressive achievement in the highly competitive environment of federal grants. SSS will receive $284,753 each year for five years, for a total of over $1.4 million.
