Prerequisite Coursework (31 credit hours)

The ESU MS in Athletic Training program requires prerequisite courses in the following areas, with examples provided for equivalent courses offered at ESU. Students submit their official transcript(s) from all prior institutions providing evidence of “C” or better for the following prerequisite courses:

Biology – GB 100/101 General Biology and Lab 4 hours
Physics – PH 140/141 College Physics I and Lab 5 hours
Human Anatomy and Physiology – GB 330/331 Human Anatomy and Physiology I/Lab and GB 340/341 Human Anatomy and Physiology II/Lab 8 hours
Kinesiology – PE 362 Kinesiology 3 hours
Chemistry – CH 120/121 Essentials of Chemistry and Lab or CH 123/124 Chemistry I and Lab 5 hours
Psychology – PY 100 Introductory Psychology 3 hours
Nutrition – GB 385 Nutrition 3 hours
Total Hours: 31 hours

 

Prerequisite experience: Evidence of a minimum of 50 hours of observation or student experience under the direct supervision of a certified athletic trainer (ATC). The more time a student can spend observing will better prepare them for understanding the requirements and responsibilities of being an athletic trainer, however acquiring more than the minimum 50 hours is not required for acceptance into the program.
