Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Option
You may add the Registered Teacher Apprenticeship option to any elementary education program route if you are currently employed by a school district as an apprentice. This option allows you to:
- attend courses specifically designed for apprentices, providing you with opportunities to apply your learning to your work in schools.
- satisfy field experience requirements based on your work as an apprentice.
- earn a salary while you pursue your degree.
The Registered Teacher Apprenticeship option may lead to licensure in Elementary Education (PK-6) or Elementary Education Unified (K-6).

- What license(s) can I earn on the registered teacher apprenticeship option?
You may pursue a license in elementary education (PK-6) or elementary education unified (K-6). An elementary education license prepares you to teach in the general education setting, while an elementary education license prepares you to teach in the general and special education setting.
- What school district participate in the in the registered teacher apprenticeship option?
Any school district in the state of Kansas may participate in the Registered Teacher Apprenticeship program. You may direct your school district to the KSDE website for additional information.
- Can I work in a high school as an apprentice and complete the Registered Apprenticeship Option?
No. When you complete the Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Option at Emporia State University, you will be licensed to teach in grades PK-6 (or K-6, if you also add the elementary education unified option). You must be employed as an apprentice in grades that align with your desired license.
