BS - Sport Leadership + Recreation

Pursue your passion

The bachelor’s degree in Sport Leadership & Recreation at Emporia State University prepares students for dynamic careers across the sport and recreation industry, including professional and intercollegiate athletics, community recreation, and parks and recreation.

Students learn from dedicated faculty and experienced industry professionals who bring real‑world insight into every course. The curriculum builds a strong foundation in areas such as sport leadership, cross‑cultural communication, sport management, facility and event design, revenue generation, and professional development.

Hands‑on experience is a hallmark of the program. Students regularly collaborate with staff at the ESU Student Recreation Center and ESU Athletics, gaining practical skills through applied coursework, practicum experiences, and a culminating internship. These opportunities allow students to develop confidence, leadership ability, and industry‑ready competencies from their first semester through graduation.

Graduates leave prepared to lead, manage, and innovate across a wide range of sport and recreation settings, well-equipped with both the knowledge and practical experience employers value.
