Dr. Liss began working at Emporia State University in the fall of 2007. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate special education courses at ESU. He currently teaches graduate special education courses with a focus on the secondary level practicum courses.
He taught high school students in the Lincoln Public Schools (Nebraska), where he was a special education work experience teacher and a special education vocational evaluator. Following that, Dr. Liss worked as a university supervisor of special education student teachers at the University of Kansas.
His research interests include the areas of teacher preparation, transition, and globalization. Dr. Liss is an active member of the Teacher Education Division within the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
He earned his Ph.D. in special education at the University of Kansas. He earned his master's degree in educational psychology, his bachelor's degree in psychology, and his teaching license all at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He earned his associate's degree in social sciences at Platte Community College.
