Mentor Program Mentee Information

Helpful information for mentees

How to become a mentee

  • All students enrolled in a degree program in the School of Business (major or minor) are eligible to apply.
  • Upon being matched, you will be paired with your mentor for the remainder of your career at Emporia State. If for some reason you cannot continue to be a mentee, or wish to terminate your mentor/mentee relationship, you will need to contact Leticia Rust in the BizHornet Center 620-341-5232 or lrust1@emporia.edu.

Expectations of mentees

  • Mentees should plan on devoting approximately one hour per month to their mentor. The expectation is that mentors and mentees will participate in at least one form of communication each month. Communication of any kind is acceptable: e-mail, phone, Skype, face-to-face, etc. At the beginning of each month, a suggested conversation topic will be posted to the Mentor Program webpage, and also sent in an e-newsletter.
  • Mentees should be prepared to engage in a professional relationship, one in which you will be responsible for maintaining regular communication, willing to listen and learn, and taking initiative.

Benefits of having a School of Business mentor

  • Here are a few ways in which a mentor will be able to help you:

    • Discuss industry trends
    • Introduce you to colleagues to help build your professional network
    • Identify internship and job opportunities
    • Provide interview tips
    • Give advice on professional communication, dress and demeanor
