Why the Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) from ESU?

The on-campus MSIT program is designed for professionals without technology backgrounds while also further developing the skills and qualifications of those with technical experience. The MSIT program is a STEM program and organized in such a manner so that students will be exposed to all areas of information technology, enhancing any career field, even for those without IT backgrounds.

Our students enjoy the benefits of small classes and a close relationship with ESU faculty, including personal instruction and one-on-one mentoring. Several of our courses are taught by field practitioners, allowing students to learn current techniques by experts in the field.

Program Description

The 33-hour on-campus MSIT program includes 24 hours of required courses covering broad technological areas, such as database management, cloud computing, electronic commerce, and enterprise architecture. The degree is aimed at providing a comprehensive perspective of the technology profession, and as such, will prepare students for the technological challenges in today’s industries.

You can qualify for a GMAT waiver with a Bachelor's degree in business from a regionally-accredited college or university with a 3.5 GPA or higher, a previous Master's degree, or three or more years of leadership/managerial experience (with resume submitted).

What can you do with this degree?

Upon finishing this degree, a student will have several career path options to pursue, such as IT Specialist, Software Developer, Network Architect, and Security Analyst.

GMAT WAIVER during COVID-19 conditions:

We in the School of Business have a desire to accommodate the needs of our applicants in this time of social distancing and stay-at-home orders. Specifically, testing centers where applicants can take the GMAT are currently closed and are not expected to reopen in the near future. A small, but important share of applicants for our graduate programs have no other admissions option. Therefore, consistent with many other business schools operating MBA and other programs, effective immediately the School of Business has temporarily adjusted our admission requirements.


Students must meet One of the following four requirements:

  1. A bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.0* or higher from a regionally-accredited (or equivalent) institution.
  2. A master’s degree in any field with a GPA of 3.0* or higher.
  3. A bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 2.65* or higher and at least three years of leadership experience in the technology field.
  4. For applicants with a GPA between 2.65 and 3.0*, you may submit additional materials so we can conduct a holistic review of your application. A student who is deemed not ready for the program may be denied admission. These materials may include evidence of a high-ranking institution, rigorous program, success in quantitative courses, strong standardized test scores (GMAT, GRE, etc.), etc.

* in the last 60 semester hours of study or cumulative (4.0 system)

Students admitted under the COVID-19 waiver must achieve at least a 3.0 GPA in their first 9 hours to remain in the program and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA until their degree completion.
