Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) Distance Education Route

Your degree. Your way.

Distance Education Route

We are proud to offer our elementary education program face-to-face in the Kansas City and Wichita areas. With evening course offerings, you are able to stay in your day job longer while simultaneously pursuing your goal of becoming an elementary teacher.

Students on the distance partnership route may complete their general education requirements online through Emporia State or through any community college. Our existing partnerships with Butler Community College and Johnson County Community College make your transfer to Emporia State seamless.

Distance students design their own plan of study, picking the pace that works best for them. Students who wish to graduate early may elect to participate in our accelerated program, called the Fellowship for Acceleration to Student Teaching (FAST; scholarship available).

Elementary education majors on the distance education route may elect to add one or more of the following options:

Options

Paraeducator Option
  • Students who select the paraeducator option are employed by a school district as a paraeducator while simultaneously completing courses online or in the evenings. With this option, your duties as a school district employee earn you credit toward your elementary education degree.
Elementary Education Unified Option
  • Students who select the elementary education unified option earn an elementary education unified license, allowing them to work as an elementary classroom teacher or a special education teacher after graduation.
Four-Week Opportunities Option
  • Students who select the four-week opportunities option enhance their student teaching semester with a second student teaching placement overseas or with an award-winning teacher.
