Become an art teacher

Bachelor of Science in Education, Art Education (Grades K-12)

Our university continues to excel in teacher education, as it has for over 125 years. The Bachelor of Science in Education degree program prepares students to teach art at the K-12 level. This degree teaches our students not only art, but how to teach K-12 students art of many styles. If you want to teach art in elementary, middle or high school, the teacher education program is available at ESU. The Department of Art partners with the department overseeing middle and secondary education. Learn more about what is involved in becoming a K-12 art teacher.

Be part of something great

At ESU, students take an active role in developing the cultural experience of Emporia. You’ll get opportunities to display your work, both within your department and to the wider Emporia State and Emporia communities. Our campus galleries, the Norman R. Eppink and the Gilson Memorial Gallery hold student and faculty exhibits throughout the semester that are open to the public. In the Emporia community, the First Friday Art Walk, started by alum Kaila Mock, often features student work.
