Steve Catt

Dr. Stephen E. Catt joined the Department of Communication and Theatre at ESU in 1977. He completed his B.S. degree, with a major in Finance, at the University of Arizona. He also earned his M.A. degree in Speech Communication from the University of Arizona. In addition, he completed his M.B.A. at Arizona State University, and his Ph.D. in Communication Theory, with a secondary area of Organizational Behavior, from Ohio University. He served as chair of the Department of Communication and Theatre for 25 years.

SP 403 - Communication Training and Development

Dr. Catt regularly conducts experiential learning programs to help individuals in both profit and non-profit organizations improve leadership skills and utilize communication techniques that will assist them in becoming better leaders and more successful in their careers. His training programs also help participants improve their listening skills and learn how to develop creative solutions to address organizational challenges.

He has published four books in the areas of Supervisory Management and Communication, Human Relations, Supervision, and Fundamentals of Management. In addition, he has published articles in periodicals such as Journal of Business, Training & Management Development Methods, Supervision, Education, Southwest Business and Economics Journal, The National Accounting Journal, The Kentucky Business Education Association Journal, Strategic Finance, Journal of Organizational Culture, Communications, and Conflict, The Kentucky Business Education Association Journal, and Administrative Issues Journal: Connecting Education, Practice, and Research.

Dr. Catt has twice received the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Annual Award for Excellence in Instruction at Emporia State University, as well as the Kansas Speech Communication Association Outstanding College Speech Teacher Award. He also was the recipient of the Phi Delta Theta Outstanding Faculty Award and inducted as a member of the Kansas Speech Communication Association Hall of Fame.
