About the Program

The Ethnic and Gender Studies program at Emporia State provides educational experiences that foster in students a deeper understanding of the issues of social justice, diversity, racial justice, intersectionality and anti-racism to promote greater respect for self and others and responsibility toward the common good. The program achieves these goals by offering classes and programming that focuses on:

  • Cultural Competency
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Studies

The Ethnic and Gender Studies program aspires to create a culture of diversity, inclusion and equity at Emporia State and beyond.

Major and Minor

Emporia State University offers a major in Ethnic, Gender, and Identity Studies starting Fall 2020 and a minor in Ethnic and Gender Studies

Social Change

Minor

Study the historical and cultural constructions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and class; explore the social and political issues associated with these categories.

Social Change

Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies

Through the coursework for the Social Change major, students will study multiple identities and come to understand how those identities intersect and influence one another.
