Counselor Education Scholarships

Scholarships are available to students studying in programs of counselor education. These scholarships vary in requirements and amounts.

Baker-Karst-Kuehn Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1

This scholarship was established through an endowed fund to recognize outstanding majors in the undergraduate Rehabilitation & Disability Studies program and the graduate Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling concentration at Emporia State University.

Only current students and future Hornets who have completed the Undergraduate Application for Admission or the Graduate Application for Admission can log in to the scholarship portal to apply for the scholarship.

Lorraine Walker & Sabrina Ware Rehabilitation Counseling Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1

The Lorraine Walker and Sabrina Ware Rehabilitation Counseling Scholarship Fund was established to assist in the financial support of graduate students majoring in Rehabilitation Counseling in the Department of Counselor Education at Emporia State University. Applicants must meet general scholarship requirements established by the Department of Counselor Education scholarship committee.

Lloyd A. Stone School Counseling Scholarship

The Lloyd A. Stone School Counseling Scholarship Fund was established to assist in the financial support of graduate students majoring in School Counseling in the Department of Counselor Education at Emporia State University. Applicants must meet general scholarship requirements established by the Department of Counselor Education scholarship committee.

Harry J. & Helen Rude Waters Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1

The Harry J. & Helen Rude Waters scholarship was established to assist graduate students majoring in Counseling at Emporia State University. To be eligible for consideration for this award, applicants need to be graduate students, preferably working towards state licensure in counseling, in the Department of Counselor Education at Emporia State University. Applicants must meet general scholarship requirements established by the Department of Counselor Education scholarship committee.

Deanna J. Hawes Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1

In appreciation for Emporia State University, and in recognition of Dr. Deanna J. Hawes for her many years of service to Emporia State University and the students in Counselor Education, the Deanna J. Hawes Scholarship has been established to assist the financial support of graduate students in School Counseling at ESU. The scholarship is renewable and may be awarded for each year the recipient continues to be enrolled at Emporia State University.

Dr. Nancy Mayer Knapp Memorial Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1

Dr. Nancy Knapp came to Emporia State University in 1990 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology. Nancy became Director of the Art Therapy program and received The Teachers College Outstanding Achievement in Professional Service Award. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 1996 and served on the American Art Therapy Association board and Art Therapy Certification Board. She gave of herself tirelessly in professional and personal endeavors. Hers was a celebration of life.

First priority will be given to a graduate student in Art Therapy Counseling. Second priority will be given to a graduate student in Clinical Psychology, and third priority will be given to a graduate student in the Department of Psychology. The scholarship is not renewable.
