Reading Specialist Licensure Only

Licensure only is for candidates who have already completed a master’s degree which is related and acceptable (as determined by the department program committee).

Application for admission as a non-degree seeking candidate must be made on a form provided by the Graduate School.

Candidates must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA on last 60 hours, as evidenced by official transcripts.

KSDE licensure requirements also include successful completion of the Reading Specialist Praxis exam, upon completion of the Emporia State University reading specialist program.

Reading Specialist Licensure Program - 19 graduate credits

  • EL721 Reading Theory & Literacy Practices: Elementary  - 3 cr hr
  • EL723 Reading Theory & Literacy Practices: Secondary - 3 cr hr
  • EL821 Curriculum & Standards in the Literacy Environment - 3 cr hr
  • EL823 Analysis & Instruction of Reading - 3 cr hr
  • EL827 Assessing & Instructing Learners: Literacy Practicum - 3 cr hr
  • EL828 Instructional Leadership & Coaching - 2 cr hr
  • EL829 Leadership & Coaching Practicum - 2 cr hr
