Early Childhood Unified Licensure Programs

Procedure for Teacher Certification (B-age 5 or B-age 8)

In addition to the ECU graduate course work, the candidate must pass the Educational Testing Service content exam for Early Childhood Unified. Information about scores needed for each licensure program can be found at

For test descriptions, sample questions with answers, and test-taking strategies, see the Tests at a Glance. Review and download Tests at a Glance information instantly from the Praxis Series website.

Candidates seeking the ECU B-age 5 OR B-age 8 license must additionally pass the PLT exam. For specific test codes and further information, contact the Teacher Licensing Officer. See contact information listed above.

The department will recommend a candidate for full licensure when all of the requirements for the program have been completed. A grade of B or better must be earned in courses to receive a recommendation. Upon completion of licensure requirements, the candidate is responsible for applying for licensure by contacting the Teacher Licensing Officer of Emporia State University. The Teacher Licensing Officer then recommends to the Kansas State Department of Education that the candidate be licensed in the appropriate area.
