Dr. Deb Larson teaches reading and language arts methods courses. She joined the faculty of Emporia State in 2008 after spending 25 years in elementary education as a kindergarten teacher and reading specialist. Dr. Larson earned her master's and her doctorate from Kansas State University. Her research interests include early literacy, the use of discussion in the classroom and reading comprehension.
Dr. Larson is a past president of the Kansas Reading Association. She has been published in the Kansas Journal of Reading, the Kansas English Journal, and Utah Parent Newsletter. In 2015, she received the Excellence in Instruction Award from The Teachers College.
