Amy Welch received her bachelor's in elementary education from Northwest Missouri State University with a minor in early childhood, and her master's in educational policy and administration from the University of Kansas. She worked six years as a classroom teacher and 10 years as an elementary principal.
Welch served as the director of the Kansas City student teaching program for Kansas State University from 1999-2005. She began working for Emporia State in 1999 as Clinical Supervisor for student teachers. Since 2005 she has served as a coordinator for the Professional Development School program in Olathe, Kansas.
