Rehabilitation & Disability Studies Minor

This program prepares you to work in a variety of human service settings to provide support services to individuals with disabilities. Students can use the undergraduate degree as a launching point towards a graduate study in related professional fields.

Program description

This program emphasizes a holistic view of the family, disability, and rehabilitation services to individuals, teaching students how to work with clients who are disabled or handicapped.

A minor in Rehabilitation & Disability Studies requires each student to complete a total of 17 credit hours in rehabilitation courses. A student minoring in RDS will not participate in the field site experience or do an independent study.

Individuals wishing to minor in Rehabilitation & Disability Studies are required to meet the following conditions prior to being accepted in the program:

  1. have completed a minimum of 30 undergraduate credit hours, earning a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5; and
  2. have completed either RE 290 Introduction to Rehabilitation Programs or RE 291 Survey of Disabling Conditions with a grade of B or better.

Students with less than a 2.5 cumulative grade point average may not enroll in more than six credit hours of rehabilitation course work prior to being accepted as a minor in the program.

After meeting the previous conditions, or during the semester in which the conditions will be met, students seeking a Minor in Rehabilitation and Disability Studies must do the following:

  1. submit a completed application for admission form to the Rehabilitation and Disability Studies program coordinator; and
  2. upon admission you will be notified, in writing, of your acceptance and you will need to meet with the Rehabilitation Programs Coordinator to complete a Contract for Minor to be submitted to the Degree Analysis office at the Registrar.
