Our students have many opportunities to participate in high-impact learning experiences - including clinical experiences and internships - done in close partnership with our faculty.

Undergraduate Majors

Athletic Training

Bachelor of Science

Athletic trainers are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation. ATs are always in the action providing emergency care, therapy and rehab treatments for athletic teams, fitness centers/gyms, community programs. This is also a pre-professional preparation field for physical therapy, chiropractic care, and other health-related programs.

Health & Human Performance

Bachelor of Science

This degree prepares you for positions in corporate health, strength & conditioning, personal training, public administration and related areas. Graduates can assume leadership roles in designing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion campaigns. Career options also exist in corporate, clinical/medical, not-for-profit organizations, commercial/private settings and academic institutions. This is also a pre-professional preparation field for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and chiropractic care.

Psychology (BA)

Bachelor of Arts

The B.A. in Psychology is a good option for candidates who want to explore other disciplines, such as literature, political science, or writing in greater depth. This might be used to ready them for a specialized field such an entry into non-profit work, journalism, social work, or counseling. It also well positions candidates who are striving to be bilingual, which is an area of need in human services work.

Psychology (BS)

Bachelor of Science

The B.S. in Psychology is a good option for candidates who want to emphasize their research and writing skills, or emphasize biology and other science areas. Such candidates often have an eye toward further graduate study in psychology or related disciplines, especially in STEM fields. This degree is often pursued by those who enjoy math and science, and see themselves in an analytical or technical field.

Rehabilitation & Disability Studies

Bachelor of Science

Principles, strategies and experiences to facilitate rehabilitation and human services. Careers: community support services, addictions counseling, mental health and independent living services.

Sport Leadership & Recreation

Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science in Sport Leadership & Recreation is designed to prepare you for a leadership role in sport and recreation industries. The SLR program has courses focused on sport management, event and program design, revenue management, business law, marketing, and sport psychology. With unique practicum and internship experiences, SLR graduates are uniquely qualified for a wide range of careers in the profession.

Coaching

Minor

Coaching a sport is one of the best ways to positively influence the lives of others. HPER’s Coaching minor is one of only 10 higher-education programs in the country to be nationally accredited. It is the most active and largest coaching program in Kansas.

Health

Minor

This is a non-teaching minor that can help prepare you for a career in public health, commercial and private agencies, and with county, state, and federal agencies.

Psychology

Minor

The minor provides you the most current knowledge, skills and competencies in psychology and related fields. Careers related to this include statistics, public relations, social work, mental health, human resources.

Rehabilitation & Disability Studies

Minor

This program prepares you to work in a variety of human service settings to provide support services to individuals with disabilities. Students can use the undergraduate degree as a launching point towards a graduate study in related professional fields.

Sport Leadership & Recreation

Art Therapy Counseling

Master of Science

Art Therapy offers several advantages verbal therapy cannot. Through the creation of art, one can express thoughts, feelings, and conflicts that cannot be easily expressed through words. At ESU, you can choose to study for an MS in Art Therapy or select one of our two dual degree programs, combining Art Therapy with Clinical Counseling or Clinical Psychology.

Master of Science

The purpose of the MS in Clinical Counseling is to prepare you to serve individuals and families experiencing a range of social justice and wellness concerns. This collaborative endeavor between two graduate programs is designed to allow students to achieve two masters degrees within three years of study. Offered on campus.

Art Therapy and Clinical Psychology, Dual Curriculum

Master of Science

There are 30 shared credit hours between the Art Therapy Counseling and Master of Science in Clinical Psychology programs. Through completing a three-year curriculum, students will receive both a Master of Science in Art Therapy Counseling AND a Master of Science in Clinical Counseling.

Clinical Counseling

Master of Science

Prepares graduates to provide individual and group therapy in a variety of settings including substance abuse, crisis intervention, marriage and family, children and adolescents, veterans and career counseling. Graduate program – hybrid offering comprised of online and on-campus.

Clinical Counseling, Clinical Addictions Counseling Concentration

Concentration, Master of Science

The Master of Science in Clinical Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Addictions Counseling is a hybrid graduate degree, allowing students to complete the program with a combination of on campus and online coursework.

Clinical Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Concentration

Our Master of Science in Clinical Counseling with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling is offered in a hybrid format, allowing students to complete coursework through a combination of online and on campus classes.

This generalist training program flexibility and personalized attention so you can pursue individual research interests or specialized training through independent study. This degree prepares you for a professional career in clinical psychology or to enter a doctoral program in psychology.

eLearning and Online Teaching

Certificate Program

eLearning continues to gain momentum and popularity in the corporate, military, and healthcare sectors, as well as in post-secondary and K-12 education. This certificate program provides online learning designers and teachers with research-based, best practices in online teaching and learning.

Health, Physical Education, and Recreation

Master of Science

This fully online program is designed for students interested in advancing their education and career opportunities in the areas of HPER and Sport Coaching. This degree does not lead to teaching licensure. Offered entirely online.
