The Literacy Bridge
- Beginning in 2021, the Mobilizing Literacy Grant is funding tutoring for tri-county area children. The Literacy Bridge currently serves as a connection point to match undergraduate and graduate Emporia State University students with children needing tutoring.
- The Literacy Bridge is running a pilot tutoring program during the fall of 2021 with 11 of the tri-county area schools. A total of 46 ESU students who are seniors are participating and offering tutoring to Kindergarten through third grade children. Enrolled children will receive eight to fourteen hours of targeted instruction based on the needs discovered through informal assessment. Most tutoring will be delivered before or after school although virtual instruction will be available in some situations to meet the scheduling needs of the child and ESU student. Future expansion of the tutoring will include a larger group of tutors, tutoring locations, and services for families.
- To get in touch with someone from the Literacy Bridge and to learn more about the available services or to enroll your student, you may contact KMLC at 620-341-5240 or email staylo17@emporia.edu.
