The Jones Institute for Educational Excellence (JIEE) plays an important role in the advancement of education in Kansas. Established in August 1982 and originally called the Center for Educational Research and Service, the office is part of The Teachers College at Emporia State University. The institute is experienced in policy analysis, field service, research, grant administration, and publications. Flexible and creative, the institute is prepared to initiate and respond to proposals, suggestions, and projects designed to enhance the quality of education in Kansas.
The Jones Institute for Educational Excellence is a non-profit organization partially funded by the Walter S. and Evan C. Jones Trust of Lyon County, Kansas. Additional funding and services are made possible through sales, grants, contracts, and the State of Kansas.
The Jones Institute for Educational Excellence is located in the lower level of The Earl Center at Emporia State University, 1601 State St.
Since its inception in 1982, the Jones Institute for Educational Excellence has been an educational resource to The Teachers College, Emporia State University, the State of Kansas, and - at times - the nation. The institute provides leadership to the profession through encouraging pre-college students to consider teaching as a career, provides access to educational experts through pre-service and in-service activities, and supports on-going mentoring and career development for those who have entered the profession.
The Jones Institute supports on-going development of teachers and administrators through numerous workshops, conferences, publications, and policy studies. No other resource in Kansas provides a similar breadth and depth of educational leadership as the Jones Institute for Educational Excellence.
