Restricted Licensure Program

Internship Admission Criteria and Procedures (Decision Point 2)

In order to be admitted internship of the Restricted License Program the following requirements must be met:

  1. Successfully complete coursework resulting in 9 hours of college credit
  2. Pass the Praxis II content test before getting a restricted teaching license
  3. Contract for a teaching position in Kansas
  4. Kansas background check completed
  5. Restricted teaching or school specialist license has been issued by KSDE

Candidates will work under the supervision of a University faculty advisor who will conduct observations, provide feedback, and complete formative and summative evaluations. Individual schools will be responsible for providing mentor(s) who will maintain daily support with assistance in routine responsibilities, peer coaching, modeling, and team teaching. During the internship candidates will successfully complete a teacher work sample and 12 semester hours of Internship coursework (6 credit hours each semester; ED 893 & ED 894 or CE 881). Candidates may be recommended for licensure at the end of the first year but may have up to 2 years to complete the program if certain criteria exist. Candidates will be required to attend seminars conducted on-site at the University with optional distance learning sites available based on need and participate in an online internship course.
