Emporia State University, Emporia Kansas
Kansas is the heartland of the USA,
where the state flower is the sunflower.
“The road to freedom is bordered with sunflowers” - Martin Firrell
Emporia State University already has the 2nd lowest student debt for regional universities in the Midwest, and with a renewable $5,000 Sunflower Scholarship in hand, you can be that much closer to total financial freedom after graduation.
The road to financial freedom after college can seem winding and pathless, and we know a little goes a long way. That’s why we offer the Sunflower Scholarship, a $5,000 renewable scholarship for incoming freshmen, transfer and international undergraduate students eligible for out-of-state tuition rates.
Why do we have the lowest student debt for all public universities in Kansas? Because we want you to start a life when you graduate, not spend it paying for the degree.
Am I eligible?
The Sunflower Scholarship is available to full-time* domestic and international undergraduate students who are not eligible for reduced tuition based on geographic location. Students classified as NEARR, MSEP, or Corky +, and those with international agreements are not eligible.
Freshmen. New, first-time freshman students are eligible if they have scored at least a 21 or higher on the ACT, a 980 on the SAT, or an equivalent score on another recognized exam and have a 2.5 unweighted GPA or higher.
Transfer Students. New transfer students are eligible if they have at least 24 transferable credit hours and have a 2.5 GPA or higher.
How long can I renew?
The Sunflower Scholarship can be renewed for a total of six subsequent semesters after the first year for freshman students and two subsequent semesters after the first year for transfer students as long as the student completes at least 12 credit hours and earns a 2.0 GPA or higher.
* Full-time students are classified as students taking 12 credit hours or more. For full Sunflower Scholarship eligibility, 10 of these hours must be on-campus classes.
Through the generosity of many Emporia State alumni, faculty, staff and friends the ESU Transfer Scholarship is awarded to new incoming Transfer students based on GPA and transferring credit hours. To qualify, a student must be a first-time undergraduate ESU student and have a 3.0 or above GPA on 24 or more transferable hours. Additionally, students must be enrolled in at least 12 ESU credit hours for the incoming semester. Students beginning in the fall semester are eligible for renewal of the scholarship for an additional two semesters after the first academic year upon completion of at least 30 credit hours in the combined fall, spring, and trailing summer semester with a 3.0 GPA. Students who begin in the spring semester are eligible for renewal of the scholarship for an additional two semesters after the first semester upon completion of at least 15 credit hours in the combined spring and trailing summer semester with a 3.0 GPA.
