Job Description: PALs work with the Advising Center in multiple capacities.  Creating and marketing programming primarily for first-year students and assisting with Hornet Connection sessions by answering questions from incoming freshmen and their parents regarding the freshman year experience are just two key pieces of being a PAL. Peer Academic Leaders will serve as role models for first-year students; thus, applicants should be knowledgeable about campus resources, the University core requirements, campus life, and the Emporia community.  They will also represent the Advising Center at Black and Gold days and other recruiting events.


  • Must be enrolled as a full time student
  • Must possess good communication skills such as the ability to speak to a group and answer questions about college life
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Must be available to attend training sessions twice a semester
  • Must be available for Hornet Connection sessions March, April, May, June, July and August
  • Must have a positive attitude about ESU and new students
