Guidelines for Second Bachelor Degrees

IF YOU RECEIVED YOUR UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE FROM ESU OR HAVE PREVIOUSLY ATTENDED ESU: For on-line application, see bottom of page.
- A $30.00 application fee and a $10 processing fee (total $40) is required for all students who have never attended ESU as a degree-seeking undergraduate student. The application fee needs to accompany the application
- Official transcript from all colleges and universities attended must be sent to the Degree Analysis Office, 1 Kellogg Circle, Campus Box 4026, Emporia, KS 66801.
- The student's major contract should be completed and signed with the assistance of the student's advisor. The contract needs to be submitted to the Degree Analysis within 30 days of the student's acceptance to a second bachelor program.
Once the completed application, official transcripts, and applicable fees are received by the Degree Analysis Office the student will be admitted to the university.
ESU students may receive the same degree as long as it is in a totally separate discipline.
Minimum Requirements for Second Bachelor Degree
A minimum of 30 semester hours of upper division, resident credit must be earned at ESU. This 30 hours is considered to be beyond the hours required for the first bachelor's degree. Students that received their first undergraduate degree from Emporia State University will be exempt from completing further general education requirements, unless the general education courses are required for the new degree. Students that received their first undergraduate degree from another college or university will complete the general education courses stipulated by the Director of General Education.
A minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 must be maintained for the second bachelor's degree. A second bachelor student's cumulative grade-point average will include all work from their first degree as well as any work being used toward their second degree. This 2.00 cumulative grade-point average is required for all work including work from the first degree. The minimum grade-point average also applies to courses taken at other colleges or universities to be transferred to ESU. A higher grade-point average may be required in some programs. Students are also required to have an overall grade-point average of 2.00 for all ESU course work.
Basic skills competency requirements (writing, mathematics, reading) must be satisfied as prescribed by the university and/or the school/college offering the major or teaching field. Major or teaching field requirements should be discussed with an advisor from the division where the degree is offered.
