Open house planned for ESU’s Wichita admissions office

November 19, 2012

Emporia State University’s new Wichita outreach office will have an open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10. The office is in the Emprise Bank building at 3900 W. Central Ave.

The open house will feature tours of the office and a chance to talk with Wichita-area alumni, Admissions Counselor Denelle Hurd plus Emporia State ambassadors, admissions staff and president, Dr. Michael D. Shonrock.

Hurd is a native of Mulvane who graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in business administration. She works with prospective new and transfer students in Sedgwick, Butler, Sumner and Cowley counties.

“In Fall 2011, nearly 10 percent of our enrollment came from these four counties,” said Laura Eddy, director of admissions for Emporia State. “An office based in Wichita makes it easier for these prospective students to reach out to Emporia State. It also allows Denelle to spend more time in high schools and community colleges in the area.”

For Hurd, returning to Emporia State as an admissions counselor is a perfect fit

“I loved the small classes and the great energy on campus,” Hurd said of her undergraduate experience. “I’m excited to share Emporia State with new students as they make an important decision that will shape their future.”

Because of Hurd’s schedule visiting area high schools and community colleges, the office normally is open by appointment. For appointments, call Hurd at (620) 794-3602 or email
