Professional Development Opportunities for Educators

Educators are being offered opportunities to increase their skill and knowledge through workshops and conferences provided this fall through The Teachers College at Emporia State University. Some events offered have graduate credit available.

November 13 – “Growing Literacy Success,” is the topic for the 20th annual Kansas Regional Reading Recovery® and Early Literacy Conference. Graduate credit is available for this outstanding professional development opportunity for all early literacy educators. Learn more at www.emporia.edu/teach/readingrecovery/.

November 16 – “Writing Across the Curriculum,” a one-day workshop with graduate credit available. This workshop provides writing strategies to demonstrate knowledge and understanding. Writing can also show a student’s mastery of a concept. The registration deadline is November 9.

November 30 – “Minding Your P's & Q's with the KCCRS Mathematical Standards (K-2),” a one-day workshop with graduate credit available. Grades K-2 teachers will investigate the Kansas College and Career Ready Mathematics Practice and Content Standards with peers in a fun, interactive, hands-on workshop. The registration deadline is November 22.

December 1 – “Minding Your P's & Q's with the KCCRS Mathematical Standards (3-6),” a one-day workshop with graduate credit available. Grades 3-6 teachers will investigate the Kansas College and Career Ready Mathematics Practice and Content Standards with peers in a fun, interactive, hands-on workshop. The registration deadline is November 22.

December 6 – “Stand Up & Speak Out: Teaching Students to Stand Up and Speak Out for Change Through Social Justice,” is a one-day workshop with graduate credit available. At this workshop, grades 7-12 teachers, counselors and administrators will explore good resources for social justice teaching, classroom-ready materials, lesson plans with supplementary texts or videos that prompt students to learn about, think about, and talk about social justice issues.
