Cold War topic of 2012 Veterans Roundtable at Emporia State University

November 1, 2012

“America’s Cold War Experience” is the topic of the 2012 Veterans Roundtable at Emporia State University.

John Sanderson, a veteran and retired district judge, will moderate the program, which includes two area veterans as speakers. Capt. Roy Gatewood of Emporia served as a B-52 co-pilot in the U.S. Air Force and will talk about the Strategic Air Command during the Cold War. Col. Charles Rayl of Strong City was with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment of the U.S. Army and will talk about the Cold War on the Czech border.

The Cold War refers to the half-century after the end of World War II characterized by tense relations between the United Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States.

The annual Veterans Roundtable, co-sponsored by Emporia State’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Department of Social Sciences and the Lyon County Historical Society Archives and Museum, is part of the All Veterans Tribute, a weeklong celebration in Emporia, the founding city of Veterans Day. The roundtable will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Preston Family Room of Emporia State’s Memorial Union.

The event is free.
