Annual Glass Blowout set for Saturday

April 4, 2011

A Washington glass artist is the featured guest at the ESU Glass Guild’s annual Glass Blowout on Saturday, April 9, 2011.

Jasen Johnsen of Bow, Wash., is at Emporia State University during the week leading up to the blowout. Johnsen is working with ESU glass students on hot-glass-forming techniques and will be critiquing students’ artwork.

The highlight of the week is Saturday’s Blowout, which includes demonstrations, a meal and an art auction. Proceeds from the auction are used to fund future visiting artists, supplies and equipment and educational field trips for glass students.

Saturday’s schedule of events:

* 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — hot glass demonstration
* 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. — break
* 1:30 to 5 p.m. — hot glass demonstrations
* 5:30 to 7 p.m. — barbecue potluck and live music
* 7 p.m. — auction begins

All activities will be at the glass studio at the art annex off Highland Street in the northeast corner of campus.
