8th annual Senior Citizen Prom is Tuesday

March 28, 2014

Older folks and Emporia State University athletes will be kickin’ up their heels at the eighth annual Senior Citizens Prom.

The event, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, in Webb Hall at the Emporia State Memorial Union, is sponsored by the university’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

”The Emporia senior citizens always show us support on and off the field, so this is our way to show our gratitude and to give back to the community,” said ESU track athlete and SAAC president Nikki Wetstein. "Over 200 seniors enjoyed the event last year and the student athletes look forward to the interaction and forming new relationships with even more seniors this year."

The night includes live country music by Unchained Band. The Senior Citizen Prom is for adults 55 years or older, and is free of charge. L-CAT transportation service will be available by calling 342-6119 with reservations requested.

Members of the Lions Club will provide valet parking and Emporia State student-athletes will meet seniors at the entrance to the Memorial Union and will be available to escort them to the Webb Hall. Photos to remember the evening will also be provided by Walgreens and flowers are provided by Designs by Sharon, Emporia Floral and Riverside Gardens.

Other sponsors who have made the event possible include the Emporia Gazette, KVOE, Holiday Resort, Horizon Plaza, Walgreens, Presbyterian Manor, Sterling House, Wyndam Place, Newman Regional Health Foundation and Roberts Blue Barnett.
