Discover Emporia State during Hornet Night

March 22, 2012

High school sophomores, juniors and seniors as well as community college students from the Kansas City area can learn more about Emporia State University during a special event on
April 3.

Kansas City Hornet Night begins at 6 p.m. April 3 at the Doubletree Hotel, 10100 College Blvd., in Overland Park. Emporia State administrators, faculty, staff and alumni will be on hand to share information about the school, which is about 90 minutes southwest of the Kansas City metropolitan area.

“We’re excited to show off exactly what makes Emporia State special,” said Laura Eddy, director of admissions for the university. “Every student who applies for admission will be entered into a drawing for two $1,000 scholarships.”

Those planning to be on hand include Dr. Michael D. Shonrock, new president of the university; Corky, the Hornet mascot; and the school’s pep band and cheerleaders to teach the Fight Song.

There is no cost for the event, but advance registration is required to ensure enough pizza is ordered. Go online to or call toll-free 1-877-468-6378.
